Hardware

Touch Gallery don't supply hardware, but we can help with advice and installation.

Ready made
Stand-alone kiosks are available from suppliers such as Dicoll Ltd, from about £2000.

Self build
Many museums prefer to build a touchscreen into a display, with the computer hidden behind it. Touch monitors are also available for desk mounting.

Computer
We recommend a recent pc running Windows, for best compatibility. A suitable pc will have good graphics performance, and will probably cost over £400.

Touchscreen
We have had good results with Elo touchscreens using 'surface wave' technology. A 17" screen costs about £475. Cheap resistive touchscreens are best avoided.

Options
Concealed speakers or headphones and a robust keyboard are common extras. Other options include webcams, printers, barcode scanners and fingerprint readers.

A monitor and trackball can be used instead of a touchscreen for some applications.

An uninterruptible power supply shuts the pc down safely when the power is turned off.
